Dominican Republic visa requirements for Egyptian citizens

An Egyptian passport needs a Dominican visa, and the advantage of this corridor is that the Dominican Republic keeps its own embassy in Cairo, in Sarayat Maadi, with a consular section reachable at consularegipto@mirex.gob.do and on (+20) 2 2358 7216. No need to approach another country's mission or an embassy accredited from another capital, which is the usual arrangement for a Caribbean destination in this region. Before starting, it is worth checking an alternative route that the Dominican ministry itself sets out and that leaves the visa aside. Decree no. 691-07 of 18 December 2007 eases entry for anyone holding permanent residence or a valid multiple-entry visa from the United States, the European Union (Schengen), Canada or Great Britain: with that document you enter on your passport and the tourist card, for tourism, with no Dominican visa. An Egyptian holding a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa, for example, does not have to go through the embassy at all.

E-Ticket

A mandatory electronic form (migration, customs, and health in one) for every traveler regardless of nationality, before entering or leaving the country — unlike Colombia's CheckMig, this one is legally mandatory. It folds in the former "Tourist Card": since 25 April 2018 it's bundled into air tickets issued outside the DR, so most travelers pay nothing extra on arrival; the card's own reference cost, when handled separately, is USD 10 and authorizes a single entry.

Fee

USD 10.00

USD 10 is the reference cost of the Tourist Card/E-Ticket when handled independently; for the vast majority of travelers arriving on a commercial flight it's already bundled into the ticket issued outside the DR, so it isn't paid separately.

Processing time

Every traveller fills in the E-Ticket, up to 72 hours before you travel and generates the QR code you show at the airport straight away. It is mandatory and free for every nationality, both entering and leaving, and it rolls the immigration, customs and health declarations into one form.

Required documents

• E-Ticket completed online before travel (migration, customs, and health) at eticket.migracion.gob.do.

Vaccinations

• No mandatory vaccines for entry: no international certificate of vaccination (yellow fever included) is required under the International Health Regulations.

Health insurance

Not mandatory for this destination.

Transit rules

Tourist stay authorized for up to 30 days; exceeding it carries no penal fine or re-entry ban, only an exit fee calculated by length of overstay (see sanciones_overstay).

Customs limits

Cash

Declare to the General Customs Directorate (DGA) if carrying more than USD 10,000 in cash (or the equivalent); carrying it is legal as long as its origin and destination are declared, under Law 155-17 against money laundering.

Alcohol

5 litres of alcoholic beverages (wine, beer, rum, whisky, or other spirits) duty-free, for adult travellers.

Tobacco

20 packs of cigarettes, or 25 cigars, or 200 grams of tobacco, duty-free.

Overstay penalties

There is no penal fine or re-entry ban for exceeding the 30-day tourist stay: the Dirección General de Migración charges a tiered exit fee based on total time overstayed, payable on departure (airport or port). Official tiers: RD$3,500 (30 days to 3 months over), RD$5,600 (3-9 months), RD$7,000 (9-12 months), RD$9,100 (12-18 months), RD$11,200 (18-24 months), RD$13,300 (24-30 months), RD$15,400 (30-36 months), RD$22,400 (36-48 months), RD$28,000 (48-60 months), plus an additional RD$14,000 per full year from the sixth year onward.

Common reasons for denial

• Not having completed the E-Ticket: it is mandatory for every passenger, Dominican or foreign, entering or leaving the country, and replaces the old embarkation and disembarkation card, the customs declaration and the sworn health declaration.
• Not presenting both an inbound AND an outbound ticket: required of every foreign passenger since 28 April 2023, except legal residents in the country.
• Falling under one of the non-admission grounds in Article 15 of General Migration Law 285-04, which is the legal basis on which Migración can refuse entry.
