Verified practical details

You'll need to apply for a visa at a consulate or embassy before traveling. Here are the practical details we've verified:

Fee

No entry fee for visa-exempt nationalities (Spain's case). For nationalities that do require a visa, the National Migration Institute publishes these consular fees: single-entry visa (30 days) US$30; multiple-entry visa (90 days) US$60; "consulted visa" (requires prior INM authorization) US$100.

Required documents

  • Passport valid for the entire stay (a minimum of 6 months' validity is recommended to avoid problems).
  • Onward or return ticket.
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay.
  • Regional Traveler's Sworn Declaration, electronic and mandatory, completed online at aduanas.gob.hn (it generates a QR code validated on entry and exit). It is the same regional form used by Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Belize and the Dominican Republic.
  • Check that the immigration officer stamps your passport on entry: across Central America there are documented cases of tourists not getting an entry stamp and later being charged a fine for "irregular stay".

Vaccinations

  • No mandatory vaccines for entry from Spain: the international yellow fever vaccination certificate is only required from travelers arriving from (or who have stayed in the prior 4 weeks in) a country Honduras considers endemic. The vaccine must be given at least 10 days before arrival.

Health insurance

Not mandatory for this destination.

Transit rules

Stay of up to 90 days, extendable by a further 30 days on request at the National Migration Institute (INM), shared with the rest of the CA-4 bloc (Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua): the count doesn't reset when crossing from Honduras into any of those three countries. Important: this is only an internal mobility regime — each CA-4 country sets its own entry visa policy for third countries. Nicaragua unilaterally tightened its own in February 2026; this doesn't change anything about entering Honduras itself, but it can affect anyone planning to cross from Honduras into Nicaragua within the same trip.

Customs limits

Cash
Declare on the Regional Traveler's Sworn Declaration if entering or leaving with US$10,000 or its equivalent (or more) in cash or convertible securities per family unit, as well as weapons or goods subject to declaration. Not declaring it can lead to the funds being withheld and money-laundering charges.
Alcohol
Not confirmed via direct fetch to aduanas.gob.hn; several travel sources converge on around 2 liters of alcoholic drinks for adults within the "traveler's allowance" (personal baggage up to a value of US$500) — treat as indicative pending official confirmation.
Tobacco
Same caveat as alcohol: converging sources cite around 200 cigarettes, not directly confirmed against the Honduras Customs Administration.

Overstay penalties

Anyone who exceeds the authorized period of stay (and its extension, if any) is in an irregular situation and is charged a fine that accrues from the first day of overstay, payable at the National Migration Institute; you cannot leave the country until it is paid, and overstay is grounds for deportation. The figure usually cited by the Honduran press is around 5,789.76 lempiras (~US$236) per adult, not confirmed against an official INM fee schedule. In February 2026 the INM approved a transitional extension that temporarily waived fines over US$250 for migrants in transit while Congress debated extending the migration amnesty — a measure aimed at irregular transit, not at a tourist who runs out their permitted stay.

Common reasons for denial

  • Presenting a passport that is not valid or not in good condition: the manual requires this expressly of third-country nationals.
  • Not naming the person or institution vouching for your financial solvency to stay as a tourist.
  • Arriving on a consulted visa out of time: its validity for entering the region is 60 days from the date of issue.
  • What to accept before flying: holding a granted visa does NOT guarantee admission. The final decision is taken by the migration officer at the port of entry, and the manual says so itself.
