Verified practical details
You don't need a visa to enter Azerbaijan, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:
Required documents
- Passport valid for at least three months after the date of departure; you cannot enter or leave with an expired passport.
- Registration with the State Migration Service within the first five working days if staying 15 days or more. Hotels do it for guests, but check.
- Having visited Karabakh or the surrounding districts without prior authorisation from Azerbaijan means refusal of entry.
Transit rules
The land border with Iran is closed to people, except with a special permit to cross from Iran. Entry into Karabakh and the districts of Kalbajar, Lachin, Qubadli, Zangilan, Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Khojavend, Shusha, Khojaly, Khankendi, Aghdam and Tartar is only possible with a special government permit, because of landmines; entering without one is an offence. Non-residents may not import drones, which are confiscated at customs.
