How this visa is processed

Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) in Jakarta; or the online Travel Authorization Certificate (niaspeedy.immigration.gov.tw)

Indonesians need a visa for Taiwan unless they can apply online for the Travel Authorization Certificate, which requires they hold an ordinary passport valid for six months from arrival, an onward ticket and never having worked in Taiwan as a blue-collar worker. One of these conditions must also be met: a visa or residence permit from Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, a Schengen country, the United Kingdom or the United States, valid or expired less than ten years ago (work permits do not count); a Taiwan visa or residence permit in the last ten years without irregularities; or a valid Japan Visa Waiver Registration. The certificate is valid for 90 days, with multiple entries, and allows stays of 30 days; it must be printed and carried with the supporting documents. Taiwan's e-Visa is open to Indonesians only when travelling in groups with agencies designated by the Tourism Administration. Everyone else applies for a visa at TETO in Jakarta: applications are taken Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 11:30 and collected from 13:30 to 15:30, within four working days or two with the express service. The passport must be valid for at least six months, and the office may ask for more documents or an interview.

Verified practical details

You'll need to apply for a visa at a consulate or embassy before travelling. Here are the practical details we've verified:

Required documents

  • Passport valid for more than six months from entry. Without that, entry is refused.
  • A ticket out of Taiwan to any destination: the authorities usually ask for it on arrival, except from residence card (ARC) holders.
  • Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) submitted online within the three days before arrival.

Transit rules

Anyone who stays beyond the time granted is fined and may be deported, with possible restrictions on re-entry. Taiwan is in a highly seismic zone: the magnitude 7.4 earthquake near Hualien on 3 April 2024 caused landslides in Taroko National Park, which has only partly reopened. Typhoons are frequent from June to October.
