Verified practical details

You don't need a visa to enter Albania, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:

Authorisation system

Visa exemption up to 90 days in 180 (no advance formality)

Albania is not part of the Schengen area: days spent there do not count towards the Schengen 90 days, or vice versa. Anyone wishing to stay longer must apply for residence within the first 30 days, with an apostilled criminal record certificate.

Required documents

  • Passport valid for at least three months after leaving Albania.
  • Do not travel on a passport or ID card reported lost or stolen even if it later turned up: Albania rejects it at the border and sends the traveller back on the first available flight, without leaving the terminal in the meantime.
  • A yellow fever vaccination certificate only if arriving from a country with risk of transmission (see vaccines).

Transit rules

To stay longer than 90 days in 180, apply for a long-stay visa before travelling or for a residence permit from within Albania. Causing a wildfire is a criminal offence, and anyone involved in a traffic accident, however minor, must stay at the scene until the police arrive.
