How this visa is processed
Consular Section of the Embassy of Japan in Managua (consuladojp@mg.mofa.go.jp)
A Nicaraguan needs a visa to visit Japan, and the Embassy of Japan in Managua handles it. The temporary stay visa covers tourism, short business trips and visits to relatives or friends, with no paid activity or income in Japan. Every document must be less than three months old when submitted. For tourism the embassy asks for a passport with blank pages, the application form, a 45 × 35 mm photo on a white background taken in the last six months, a flight itinerary in the applicant's name (the ticket need not be bought), a certificate of employment and salary, a bank statement showing the last three months' movements and the stay schedule with the hotels. For visits to family or friends, add proof of the relationship (birth or marriage certificates, or photos, letters and emails for friends) and the documents of the person inviting from Japan. Once the application is received, review usually takes five working days, although it is sometimes longer. The embassy recommends taking out travel insurance.

Verified practical details
You'll need to apply for a visa at a consulate or embassy before travelling. Here are the practical details we've verified:
Required documents
- A passport valid, at the least, for the whole of your stay in Japan.
- A valid visa if your nationality requires one. Nationals of visa-exempt countries do not need one for a temporary stay.
- A return ticket with a confirmed date (e-tickets are accepted) or an onward ticket to another country.
- Travel documentation, such as hotel bookings or conference details, and proof of sufficient funds.
- Permission to enter is decided by the Japanese immigration authority, even if you have a visa.
Health insurance
Not mandatory for this destination.
When travel insurance is mandatory → Travel insurance policies ↓Transit rules
Japan has its own mechanism for transit: the transit landing permission. If you are travelling onward to a destination outside Japan, it lets you land temporarily for up to 72 hours to rest or shop in the vicinity of the port or airport of call. There is a useful variant where your itinerary is not a round trip through the same place: you may make a stop and leave Japan from another port of entry and departure near the one you arrived at, within three days.
More Japan rules
They don't depend on your passport, so they are on the Japan page:
