Authorisation system
ASAN Visa electronic visa
For passports that can use it, the easiest route is the electronic visa from the official ASAN Visa portal: fill in the details, upload a scan of the passport, pay online and the visa arrives by email. It is single entry and must be carried printed. You must leave before it expires, unless the State Migration Service has granted an extension.
Apply on the official site →Visa, e-Visa, or electronic authorisation? What's the difference →
Fee
20 USD
Single-entry electronic visa, valid for 30 days and issued within three working days, according to the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Madrid. A three-hour urgent service is available for an extra payment. Whether the portal adds a service charge could not be checked on the portal itself.
Processing time
Three working days; with the urgent service, three hours.
Required documents
- Passport valid for at least three months after the date of departure; you cannot enter or leave with an expired passport.
- Printed electronic visa.
- Registration with the State Migration Service within the first five working days if staying 15 days or more. Hotels do it for guests, but check.
- Having visited Karabakh or the surrounding districts without prior authorisation from Azerbaijan means refusal of entry.
Transit rules
The land border with Iran is closed to people, except with a special permit to cross from Iran. Entry into Karabakh and the districts of Kalbajar, Lachin, Qubadli, Zangilan, Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Khojavend, Shusha, Khojaly, Khankendi, Aghdam and Tartar is only possible with a special government permit, because of landmines; entering without one is an offence. Non-residents may not import drones, which are confiscated at customs.
