Verified practical details
You can get your visa on arrival in Oman, but it's worth preparing the paperwork ahead of time:
Authorisation system
Royal Oman Police eVisa
Visa-exempt nationalities may stay up to 14 days. The exemption comes with conditions: a passport valid for six months, a return ticket, a confirmed hotel booking, health insurance and enough money for the stay. The 14 days cannot be extended or converted into residence. To stay longer, or to travel for work or study, a visa is needed, handled by the Royal Oman Police on its online portal or on arrival; the UK Government advises applying online before travel to avoid refusal.
Apply on the official site →Visa, e-Visa, or electronic authorisation? What's the difference →
Fee
The 14-day exemption is free, and the new 14-day tourist visa that Oman grants to the nationalities it designates is also listed in the regulations with no fee. We have not been able to open the current fees for the other tourist visas in an official source.
Required documents
- Passport valid for at least six months from entry.
- Return or onward ticket, confirmed hotel booking, travel health insurance and enough money for the stay: these are conditions of the 14-day exemption and may be checked at the border.
- Make sure your passport is stamped on entry.
- For countries in the second group of the exemption (among them Mexico, Peru, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Cuba, Morocco, Egypt, India or Vietnam), the exemption only applies to those who reside in or hold a valid visa for the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Schengen Area or Japan, or who reside in a Gulf country.
Transit rules
Transit through Muscat airport is possible as long as you stay in the international zone and are guaranteed entry at your final destination; confirm with the airline beforehand. Visas about to expire are extended at the nearest civil status and passports office, but the 14-day exemption cannot be extended. Holders of the new 14-day tourist visa can swap it before it expires for another tourist visa category, paying its fee. Oman does not let anyone with pending debts or traffic fines leave the country.
