Verified practical details
You don't need a visa to enter Bahamas, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:
Authorisation system
Arrival form and departure tax
On arrival you complete and sign a form that the authorities stamp and that you hand in when leaving, and there is a compulsory departure tax at the airport. Anyone arriving in the Bahamas from the United States on an ESTA keeps using up the ESTA's 90 days while in the Bahamas. At Nassau airport the United States has a preclearance post: travellers who do not meet its requirements are refused entry to the US there and must stay in Nassau until they find a ticket back.
Required documents
- Passport valid for at least six months from arrival.
- Return ticket.
- Confirmed accommodation booking.
- Sufficient funds for the stay.
- Minors must meet the same requirements as adults and also carry the parental consent required by the Bahamian authorities.
Transit rules
The stay can be extended to a maximum of eight months. If the trip there or back goes through another country, its entry or transit requirements also apply. The hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, most active from August to October.
