How this visa is processed
Consular Section of the Embassy of Japan in Caracas (in person or through an authorised third party)
A Venezuelan needs a visa to visit Japan, and applies at the Embassy of Japan in Caracas if they live in Venezuela. Anyone resident in another country applies there. The temporary visitor visa covers tourism, visits to family or friends, business and events, with no paid activity at all, and the stay cannot exceed 90 days. For tourism the embassy asks for a passport in good condition with blank pages, the application form filled in block capitals (N/A where something does not apply), a 5 × 5 cm photo less than three months old, a copy of the return ticket or the itinerary, the schedule of activities and proof of funds. If someone else pays for the trip, they provide a letter of guarantee with their employment letter, bank reference or income certificate and a copy of their ID card. No document may be more than three months old. A short-stay visa usually takes 2 to 3 working days, and the visa is valid for three months from issue, so you can apply that far ahead. Since 1 July 2026 it costs 9,930 bolívares for a single entry and 19,870 for a double entry, in cash for the exact amount or by bank transfer, with the bank details given when the appointment is confirmed. A third party may lodge the application with an authorisation letter signed by the applicant.

When travel insurance is mandatory → Travel insurance policies ↓Transit rules
Japan has its own mechanism for transit: the transit landing permission. If you are travelling onward to a destination outside Japan, it lets you land temporarily for up to 72 hours to rest or shop in the vicinity of the port or airport of call. There is a useful variant where your itinerary is not a round trip through the same place: you may make a stop and leave Japan from another port of entry and departure near the one you arrived at, within three days.
