Japan visa requirements for Bolivian citizens

Bolivian citizens need a visa for Japan and must apply for it before the trip at a consulate or embassy.

Consular fee
682 BOB
Minimum passport validity
No minimum: it just has to be valid

How this visa is processed

Consular Section of the Embassy of Japan in La Paz (Calle Rosendo Gutiérrez 497) or the Office of the Consul of Japan in Santa Cruz (Calle Saavedra 314), by appointment via email or phone

A Bolivian needs a visa to visit Japan, including short stays for tourism, business or family visits (up to 90 days and with no paid activity at all). Two offices in Bolivia handle it: the Consular Section of the Embassy of Japan in La Paz, at Calle Rosendo Gutiérrez 497, corner of Avenida Sánchez Lima, and the Office of the Consul of Japan in Santa Cruz, at Calle Saavedra 314, corner of Cochabamba. Once the documents are complete, you request an appointment by email from the relevant office, suggesting two or three dates and times, or by phone. From the fifth working day after handing in the papers you can call to check whether the visa is ready. You only pay if it is granted, at the consular window when you collect the passport, in cash, in bolivianos and in the exact amount: for applications lodged between 1 July 2026 and 31 March 2027, Bs. 682 for a single-entry visa and Bs. 1,364 for a double or multiple-entry visa.

Transit rules

Japan has its own mechanism for transit: the transit landing permission. If you are travelling onward to a destination outside Japan, it lets you land temporarily for up to 72 hours to rest or shop in the vicinity of the port or airport of call. There is a useful variant where your itinerary is not a round trip through the same place: you may make a stop and leave Japan from another port of entry and departure near the one you arrived at, within three days.
