Verified practical details

You don't need a visa to enter Trinidad and Tobago, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:

Authorisation system

Visa exemption up to 90 days and digital arrival card

Since 17 March, all travellers arriving in or leaving the country must complete the digital arrival card online, which opens 72 hours before travel, and keep the receipts with the QR code to show at the border. The granted stay can be extended at the passport and immigration department, but without an entry stamp in the passport it is hard to do. EU citizens need no visa for tourist stays of less than three months; they do need a visa to study and a work permit for paid work of more than 30 days a year.

Required documents

  • Passport valid for at least six months on arrival. ID cards are not accepted.
  • Return ticket: without one, entry is refused.
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay.
  • Digital arrival card completed online and the receipt with its QR code.

Transit rules

Anyone arriving by boat may only enter and leave through the marinas or Chaguaramas Bay, and must report to the port controller on the day of arrival, also when sailing between Trinidad and Tobago; otherwise the fine is 4,000 Trinidad and Tobago dollars. A state of emergency was declared again on 3 March 2026 because of rising crime, which widens police search and arrest powers.
