Peruvian consular offices in Beijing (embassy consular section and consulate general), Shanghai and Guangzhou: online application on e-SAMI

A passport from China needs a tourist visa for Peru. In China it is handled by the Consular Section of the Embassy of Peru and the Consulate General in Beijing, the Consulate General in Shanghai and the one in Guangzhou, and all of them take the application online on e-SAMI, the immigration platform. You pay the fee, create a user account, fill in the form and upload the documents with the receipt: a valid passport, a return ticket or booking, a hotel or package booking (or an invitation letter legalised by Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs), a colour photo on a white background and proof of funds. In Beijing and Guangzhou the fee is 30 USD. Shanghai charges 240 RMB, by transfer to its Bank of China account or in cash at the branch in the Jin An Kerry Center, and also asks for a passport valid for six months, bank statements for the last three months with enough money for the trip and an employment certificate stating the salary, in English or Spanish, with a copy of the company's business licence (retired applicants, their retirement certificate). Ask which office covers the province where you live. The fee is not refunded if the visa is refused.

Verified practical details

You'll need to apply for a visa at a consulate or embassy before travelling. Here are the practical details we've verified:

Fee

30 USD

Consular fee for the tourist visa (only for nationalities that need one): 30 consular soles, equivalent to 30 USD under the consular fee schedule of Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Some consulates charge it in their local currency (30 EUR in Madrid, 30 GBP in London). It is not refunded even if the visa is refused. Each consulate sets how it is paid. Visa-exempt nationalities pay no entry fee.

Processing time

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes no common timeframe: each consular office sets its own, and may also ask for an interview or further documents. As a reference, the consular section in Nairobi says it sends the result in approximately 7 working days after the interview.

Required documents

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from entry into Peru
  • One colour passport-size photograph (some consulates ask for two or a specific format)
  • Return ticket or booking to Peru
  • Hotel or package tour booking for the whole stay, or an invitation letter legalised by Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Transit rules

Migraciones sets the authorised stay when it stamps your entry. A tourist can stay up to 183 calendar days, cumulative over a 365-day period counted from the first entry, unless a visa exemption agreement sets a different limit. If less is granted, the law provides for an extension up to 183 days, unless the agreement rules it out. In its information for tourists, Migraciones mentions only one online extension procedure, the one for Andean Community nationals (Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador), up to 180 days a year.
