Verified practical details

You don't need a visa to enter Guyana, but here are some practical details worth knowing before you travel:

Authorisation system

Visa exemption up to 30 days, extendable

According to the Embassy of Guyana in Brussels, nationals of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland need no visa, along with other countries in the Americas and the Commonwealth. The rest of the EU needs a visa. The visa-free tourist stay is less than one month (30 days), according to Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the British Government. Extensions are requested before that period ends, one month at a time, in Georgetown. The authorities are very strict with anyone who overstays or abuses the conditions of their stay. Working for more than 30 days in a year requires a work permit; student visas cost 140 euros.

Required documents

  • Passport valid for at least six months from entry.
  • Return ticket: without one, entry is refused.
  • Yellow fever certificate if arriving from a country with risk of transmission (see vaccines).

Transit rules

Floods and landslides are the main natural hazard; the earthquake risk is very low and hurricanes usually stay further north.
